Beginning Practícal Spanish for Herbalists and Birthworkers HYBRID Online Course

Thank you so much for expanding your tool kit for your practice(s) by investing the time to learn new ways to communicate and listen. Our Original Instructions School team is elated to be bringing you these instructions surrounding the amplification of your language tool set. We have frequently seen the necessity for a simple, accessible way to better equip those who are studying abroad, as well as practitioners who want to expand the scope of who they are able to serve, including Spanish speaking communities.

With the current geopolitical situations unfolding throughout across Nations, it certainly is a poignant time to grow the number of practitioners who are able to serve more of their local communities in a good way. The benefits of learning new languages for your practice are mutual. Not only does your overall neuroplasticity benefit, but also your practice can be supported financially through grant funding, insurance provider qualification, private client opportunities, and  programs which only apply to you if you maintain at least a basic functioning level of applicable Spanish.

While this course is built to teach a basic level of proficient Spanish speaking as it applies to Herbalism and Birth work, we know that Spanish too is a Latin language which has long been used as a tool to colonize throughout the continents. Knowing basic Español can certainly extend our tool set as Herbalists and Birthworkers, and still it is still limited. It has been said that every time an indigenous language disappears from Human consciousness, the concepts, and sometimes even Creatures, which it names cease to exist as well. When applied to Herbalism and Birth, it becomes evident that entire ways of relating with Plant Nations, Earth, and Humanity are not named (and therefore are not spoken or sung into reality) within any Latin language, but remain alive and well within the ecology of indigenous tongues that were grown before humans ever had the idea that we are separate from, and have dominion over, Earth.

For our current purposes we recognize the essential role Latin plays in both clinical Herbalism and  health care facilities - in fact, we hypothesize that Latin being the way we have agreed across Nations to organize and name our health practices greatly affects the incomplete nature of modern allopathic medicine. Language organizes how our minds perceive reality. When indigenous languages are lost or become forgotten, entire ways of relating with Plant Nations, Humanity, and earth and all of her creatures are also forgotten. In the same way that so many of us are of mixed ancestry, local Spanish speakers frequently blend the Latin language with words, phrases, and expressions from their ancestral languages indigenous to the "Americas", preserving ways of healing and relating.

It is essential that we actively move towards relating with, and restoring our indigenous languages. In Perú we have the absolute pride of having 48 living indigenous languages, and we are blessed to have members from 2 of those Nations join us as guest instructors in this course! Karen Tinta Chumvislla of Quechua Nation and Kety Melissa Yuimachi of Shipibo-Konibo Nation have provided us with key words and phrases in Quechua (Runa Simi) and Shipibo as they apply to Herbalism and Birth. Each time a new student invests in our beginning Spanish language course you are directly supporting these beautiful, resilient indigenous women.
