What is a Full Spectrum Doula?
The etymology of the word Doula stems from the ancient Greek culture used to describe “ woman who serves”. Today, however, the title Doula refers to people who are skilled for, and who work in services to mothers and their families as emotional, physical, logistical and sometimes spiritual support throughout the conception, pregnancy, and the postpartum period.
What does it mean to be an Original Instructions Full Spectrum Doula?
As the popularity of Doulas in modern society experiences a resurgence so too the standardization and regulations begin to affect the education and practices of Doulas. With all of the fear that can be created by the power dynamic of policial systems we currently love within, many certifying bodies feel the pressure to greatly limit the amount of knowledge and practical skills offered in their respective Doula training programs.
Original Instructions Doula Certification program is unique in its' intricacy. We have designed our program with a deep respect for the power of women's reproductive health and with the knowledge that the modern-day Doula must be equipped with a myriad of tools in order to optimally nurture, support, and advocate for mothers and their families.
Our Doula certification program includes a considerable amount of training in complementary fields such as holistic Herbalism, uterine massage, and other traditional healing modalities which assist Original Instructions Doulas in offering comprehensive care to their clients and communities.

Why is Herbalism such an integral portion of our Full Spectrum Doula currículum?
Pregnancy is a time in a woman's life when she must take up all of her strength, count her blessings, and go to battle in order to bring back her child(ren). She must be willing, just as a warrior in combat, to lay down her life if need be.
The role of the Doula originally was occupied by many women in the community who had various pieces of knowledge about women’s reproductive health and how to raise healthy children. Inevitably, certain women would show particular skill for assisting during a difficult childbirth and providing care for a new family.
Today the Doula fills the role of community members who would be there in a traditional Indigenous setting to help clean, cook, tend to the ceremonial fire, see that the other children are well, providing complimentary wellness treatments to the mother (as aplicable), and above all to advocate for the Mother's wishes surrounding her birth and postpartum journey.
At Original Instructions School are persistently dedicated to the quality and truly holistic education of our students. We understand that the basic knowledge of how to recognize, interact with, and benefit from nutritive Herbal medicine and foods, who are readily available in your area does not belong to any one person, but instead belong to all Human Begins.
In order for Doulas to act as a true resource and advocate for mothers and their families we believe that they require at least a basic understanding of how to nourish, support and cleanse the Human body in the same way our Ancestors have for generations;
with the help of medicinal foods, teas, steams, and baths.
Can Original Instructions Doulas work within Clinical settings and hospitals?
Largely, yes. Check in with the specific policies that your client's Main care provider has in place regarding Doulas and other support members during labor and delivery.
Do Original Instructions Doulas Acceptance Insurance?
In general, yes. Our Full Spectrum Doula CT covers all required theoretical and practícal knowledge and skills required to accept most insurances in many locations throughout the USA, Canada, and some other countries.
Are there any anual or ongoing fees once you become cetified as an Original Instructions Doula?
No.
Are Original Instructions Doulas trained or otherwise encouraged to practices as Main care providers?
No. Original Instructions Doulas are trained to provide extremely comprehensive wellness support as complimentary care providers.
