The Bone Doctor Recipe, and other everyday adventures

When lifelong friend, and maternal figure, Mary Lou came on a visit from the US she carried with her all the wisdom of her Ancestors. She is the person who first introduced me to the importance of Earth based nutrition, supplements, as well as tge the dyre importance of local environment regarding mental health.

One of my first vivid memories as a toddler is Mary Lou stubbornly insisting on putting in a vegetable garden into the sandy soil of her home next door to our trailer. Buffalo Pass, that´s what the people called our street. We called it home. The frantic passion glittering behind her eyes as she handed me a whole red tomatoe from the vine, exclaiming to me and all of creation, "Those pittiful, mealy tomatoes they sell in the store just ARE NOT THE SAME!!". While I was too young to know what pittiful meant, the look in her eyes and the taste of that tomate from her garden travels with me to this day.

Who better than she to know what it means to go to a vegetable (Plant kingdom) based bone doctor for a more complete assessment of her shoulder ? Months prior she had broken it and, under the guide of only a mainstream Osteopath practicing within the USA, it still had not healed properly (even with Mary Lou's vast knowledge of nutrition).
Although it had been roughly eight months since she broke her shoulder and collar bone, the Doctora here in Perú was able to work with the recent x-rays and other information Mary Lou provided her in order to bring about a more integral and complete healing process.

We were previously acquainted with this Bone Doctora via word of mouth...already a great sign, and she would not proceed with treating Mary Lou without seeing the x-rays and previous treatment plan (a MAJOR green flag).
As local neighbors and clients filled her humble office, separated only by a clearoy well used curtain, we witnessed how her feminine hands contained an almost mystical empathetic knowing as to where the bones were positioned. Although very petite, La Doctora's finger muscles contained the strength of several grown men.

The prescription and instructions she gave us were hand written on a single sheet of ripped out notebook paper, yet in much better penmanship than the average med doctor or surgeon. Perhaps the overinflated ego just wasn´t there. The recipe she gave us was as follows:

Capinuri
Renaquilla
Sapote Renaco
Pan del Arbol
Copaiba (not pictured)
*mystery resin (extra points if you get it, begins with an ´M´)

One cut of tree medicine, fresh (not named here)

Other materials:

- Several packs of square gauze from the pharmacy
- Bottle for the tree bark medicine
- Tool for scraping the cambium off of palo
- Drinkable water for tree bark medicine, at least 6 oz.
- Pot for simmering the resins

Naturally, tapping the palo (or tree)resins yourself in a good way is preferable. However, on this occasion we went to a trusted local Herbalist.

   Once you have gathered your ingredients;

Mix equal parts of all 6 plant resins, and bring to a vigorous simmer.

Once the mixture has simmered vigorously for at least 5 minutes, carefully dip the gauze, 1 at a time until the mixture of resins until it is completely soaked on all sides like paper mache.

Begin with 2 or 3 gauze depending on how large the area you´re casting is.

Gently but firmly wrap the affected area of the body with the gauze horizontally.

Continue to wrap the affected area, making sure to clear any resin or air bubbles.

Plaster the resin soaked gauze laying the same direction, until you can no longer see the skin underneath, but only see white gauze, like a cast.

--> Take care not to burn yourself or the client!! Test the gauze on the most sensitive area of your wrist, like a baby´s bottle.

After you have completely plaster the bone(s) in place, have the patient maintain the most favorable position to healing while they are immobil.

Wait for the the cast to dry completely. This amount of time will vary. The doctor uses a large fan to speed up the process, and a heat lamp would certainly amplify the effects of the resins in addition to helping with the drying process. In a moderate climate it should take about 25 minutes to dry completely.

While the cast is drying in place, scrape the cambium of the tree bark medicine                into a small jar or bottle with about 6 oz of drinkable water in it. The cambium is the part of the bark which lines the inner, often more brittle bark. Frequently, the cambium is  and darker colored thank the outter bark.

Frequently, the cambium fluffy or mealy in texture, a darker or more intense shade of the overall bark color, and is often times the aerial part of the Plant which is most potent in active constituents. If you have the option of not using a metal tool for scraping the cambium, all the better.

Place the cambium / water mixture made from the tree in a bottle, and sit on top of your roof over night.

Drink first thing in the am on an empty stomach, before having interacted with others. (or as little as possible if you´re in a full house).

For general care after:
Rest as much as possible, east well, and take 2 oz of fresh squeeze Camu Camu with Ginger per day.
Be careful of your injured area.
   Avoid wetting your cast.
Allow the cast to come off on its own, anywhere from 10 to 20 days.

Pregnancy is a time in a woman's life when she must take up all of her strength, count her blessings, and go to battle in order to bring back her child(ren). She must be willing, just as a warrior .......

At Original Instructions School are persistently dedicated to the quality and truly holistic education of our students. We understand that the basic knowledge of how to recognize, interact with, and benefit from nutritive herbal medicine and foods that are readily available in your area is not the intellectual property of anyone but belongs to all Human Begins.

   In order for Doulas to act as a true resource and advocate for mothers and their families we believe that they require at least a basic understanding of how to nourish, support and cleanse the female body in the same way our foremothers have for generations;

with the help of medicinal foods, teas, steams, and baths.

Protection with Pusangas, A simple recipe with Plants for energetic (and physical) protection
Protection with Pusangas, A simple recipe with Plants for energetic (and physical) protection

September 09, 2025

Agua Florida, Colonia, and other such alcohol based holy waters echo the memory of when waters used for cleansing, protecting, and anointing included propriety medicinal blends from the Plant, Animal, and Mineral nations. Pusangas incorporate the energetic blueprints, or Spirits, of the Plant nations into an alcohol and water based menstrum, which functions in ways similar to flower essences, and spritzers.

At times, pusangas are implemented as delivery systems for Ikaros or other prayer songs. Whereas many modern Colonias are now heavily fragrance with perfumes, the older versions gained their special fragrances from the freshly prepared ingredients therein such as Pirri Pirri, Piñón, Jasmine, and Tobacco.
