A Nourishing Stew Recipe (Spoiler Alert!...There is no recipe)

  Recently, during an Herbalism Class - following a tiny tangente on the many outstanding benefits of Lionś Mane Mushrooms - an attendee asked a brilliant question. Their question was regarding any favorite stew recipes which incorpórate Lionś Mane Mushroom. Much like Lionś Mane, their question got my nueropathways all sparked up, and wanting to share my favorite stew recipe of all time.

   FEEL YOUR BODY STEW

  ´Feel your body´stew is not new, but instead is the SAME old recipe that´s been done a thousand million ways since Humanity began to cook with heat. This Recipe lives where somatic experience and relationship with Plant Nations meet. 

  Cooking with Lionś Mane: 

 Working with Lionś Mane Mushroom as our principal ingredient is exciting due to all of the wonderful proteín, amuno ácids, and other vitamins which Lionś Mane offers to our medicinal stew. For those who prefer not to eat meat, or else do not have any meat accessible to them, this is a delicious source of bio-available proteín.

  In general, when cooking with Lionś Mane Mushroom, it can be helpful to remember to toast or slightly sear the Mushroom in a nutritive oil or fat base filled with seasoning. The texture of Lionś Mane Mushroom is very absorbent, and does not have a super strong flavor on their own. When seasoning, it can be helpful to do so until they are slightly golden brown and somewhat crispy - this will help to lock in the flavor/ texture.

  Avoid over cooking Lionś Mane Mushroom. In a stew, it could help to season and toast the Mushrooms separately, and add them in within 10-15 minutes to the end of simmering the Stew. 

 

´Feel Your Body Stew´ - process of gathering ingredients:

  1.   While standing in your vegetable garden, local Forrest, farmerś market, mercado, tiendita, grocery store, or kitchen come to a state of relative neutrality. Allow your thuoghts to melt away.
  2.   Follow the waves of your breath as they wash over you. Allow your awareness to settle inside your breath.
  3.   Feel your entire self as you inhabit every space of your body.
  4.   Ask (either out loud or internally) what 🌿 your body needs to find homeostasis. Ask this at least 4 times. 
  5.   While continuing to focus all of your sensations inward, allow your body to pull You towards certain veggitables and/or medicinal Herbs. When you feel any internal tugging towards one, just follow the tugging (in a safe enviroment) without thinking about it. Pick them up until you feel complete inside.
  6.   Continue the step above until You have at least 4 to 7 different vegetables and/or medicinal Herbs picked up. 

 

´Feel Your Body Stew´ - process of cooking the stew:

  1.       In several tablespoons of nutritive lard, tallow, ghee, butter, or oil lightly sautee your aromatic Herbs (if any were gathered) and hard vegetables. If any grains, beans, or legumes were gathered, they should also be incorporated during this initial seasoning sautee after having been appropriately soaked/rinsed. 
  2.      Bring these ingredients to a very light simmer. For 10-15 minutes continue this seasoning sautee. As You do, mix in any extra salts, peppers, and prayers that You feel called to. If praying and/chanting into the nutritive fat base, experience the healthy body while doing so.
  3.       Once itś clear to your senses that the fat base and dense veggies are well seasoned, add either fresh water or bone broth to the seasoned base. Add .5 to 2 liters of líquid, depending on how much was gathered, how many youŕe cooking for, etc. 
  4.       Cover, bring to a simmer, and leave there until all of the ingredients are cooked all of the way through.
  5.       Sing, pray, chant throughout while experiencing a healthy body. (Optional, of course)
  6.       Prepare Lionś Mane Mushroom as described above, and either add them to the stew 10-15 minutes before you take it off the heat, or else place them on top of each serving for a less slimy Mushroom experience.
