At the age of 21, I arrived with my 2 year old son Amaru to the familiar air of my birth place, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Taking full advantage of our flight layover, we ventured to a nearby beach for a full day with a backpack full of snacks and some friends.
By that time, it had long been a custom of mine to eat psychedelic mushrooms before swimming off deep into the Ocean to bob along, inside the amniotic fluid of Earth. This day was no exception in that regard.
While Amaru was safely being cared for on shore, I gave myself permission to swim - and to sink - into all of those corners of my consciousness which I was too cautious to share with any human person. Eye observed as my consciousness washed up upon islands of unknown possibilities, invoking seemingly unbearable waves of fear and hope. I began to drown under the suffocating weight of the responsibility of providing for myself and my small son while in the untenably expensive U.S., while still saving enough during our 8 week trip to still take something back home to Peru.
While underwater I screamed and prayed out to Earth for protection and guidance in assuring that my small son always had enough to eat, and did not go hungry as so many of his Ancestors have. In that moment of release I opened my hand reaching out for Earth's help. Without hesitation, or any room for error, she gave it.
A giant fresh avocado floated RIGHT INTO MY HAND. Gratitude and reassurance washed over me completely.
I rode the next nearest Ocean current back onto shore, and there found my son Amaru ready to eat. For a second I hesitated, wondering if the avocado could be poisoned or otherwise contaminated, but then just laughed to myself as I peeled it to hand feed my son.
The day this photo was taken Earth nourished Amaru and I in all of the ways, and we were just simply there to receive it.
