It's incredible how much language shapes our relationships with....well, just about everything.
Indigenous Human languages of all continents have, and continue to include entire concepts of Earth and the Plant Nations which have been (purposefully?) excluded from Latin, Greek, and their many derivatives.
Earth remembers, speaking those memories to us as we sit on the land. The lanuages we can hear her in matters, and shapes our aptittude.
As an Herbalist, I have spent long Seasons exploring the limits of the colonized places inside my mind regarding relationships with members of the Plant Nations, and what little knowledge of them I've been able to pick up along the way.
Through teaching events in the US, Canada, and Europe I have consistently received the same feedback --> Plant People everywhere are yearning to remember the wisdom of Herbalism which cannot be found in modern syntax. Calling it 'Holistic' does not negate the fact that we are learning about living beings through languages which refer to them as dead.
Having the opportunity to share information about diagnotics, and disease, and treatments in modern cultures where it is not political and polarizing to consider all spokes of the medicine wheels currently available.
It feels so right to be offering our Advanced Clinical & Field Herbalism Skills Immersion Retreat within Shipibo territory (the Amazon) of Calleria, Peru. The Indigenous Nations located within the Ucayali region of Peru carry and practice ways of relating with the Plant Nations which are thousands of years old -> and are largely still in tact.

Why is Herbalism such an integral portion of our Full Spectrum Doula currículum?
Pregnancy is a time in a woman's life when she must take up all of her strength, count her blessings, and go to battle in order to bring back her child(ren). She must be willing, just as a warrior .......
At Original Instructions School are persistently dedicated to the quality and truly holistic education of our students. We understand that the basic knowledge of how to recognize, interact with, and benefit from nutritive herbal medicine and foods that are readily available in your area is not the intellectual property of anyone but belongs to all Human Begins.
In order for Doulas to act as a true resource and advocate for mothers and their families we believe that they require at least a basic understanding of how to nourish, support and cleanse the female body in the same way our foremothers have for generations;
with the help of medicinal foods, teas, steams, and baths.
Agua Florida, Colonia, and other such alcohol based holy waters echo the memory of when waters used for cleansing, protecting, and anointing included propriety medicinal blends from the Plant, Animal, and Mineral nations. Pusangas incorporate the energetic blueprints, or Spirits, of the Plant nations into an alcohol and water based menstrum, which functions in ways similar to flower essences, and spritzers.
At times, pusangas are implemented as delivery systems for Ikaros or other prayer songs. Whereas many modern Colonias are now heavily fragrance with perfumes, the older versions gained their special fragrances from the freshly prepared ingredients therein such as Pirri Pirri, Piñón, Jasmine, and Tobacco.
